I Remember a Childhood Friend

I Remember a Childhood friend

Only twenty One when her Life reached the end

Not Ones for Following the rules

We were often skidging school

Until I found my Self

Suspended

And my friend did

She get kicked out as well?

Nah she was just telt

To

Go to Hell

Cause even at the age of twelve

We already Knew fine well

She would not amount to much

Given that Her parents were junkies and such

And so her Life path was set

Off She went

To Follow in their Footsteps

I Heard she became a prostitute

By a Human Trafficking ring she was Used

And there were those Who Knew

It is easier to recruit

Those Who are Vulnerable and Traumatised

More likely to Believe the Lies

Of the offers of a better LIfE

Anyways

As that Story usually goes

She went on to overdose

Body left for weeks to Rot

In an old Abandoned squat

In my town

In a slum

Yes We do have those where I come from

Though Scotland Prides it Self

On Being Rich

Not every One gets to Benefit

And in that slum living

There were Kids

I Seen the hand drawn Rainbow pics

To Think that area was once Sought after

By the shipyard workers and the gaffers

Then on the World Stage appeared the political actor

By the name of Margaret Thatcher

And that area started to Decimate

Most of the jobs were Taken Away

And like my pal’s Body

That area Decayed

As the Work was replaced

By HEROIN

And Who let this fellow in?

Just a Coincidence?

In the nineteen hundreds decade number eight

This Drug turned up

Giving The People and Escape

From another Violation

Another Rape

As time and Time again

Our Lives are Taken Away

And We’re Left Behind

Without any Say

Many say Thatcher is a witch

But did she alone cause All of It?

Maybe it’s handy to have a Scapegoat

So We don’t have to Look too close

At That which

We All Allow

to Unfold

In a Society so Numb and Cold

Some may say

My friend deserved to End This Way

She took drugs

It’s True

She did

But I Remember

She was just a Kid

And so the Sun sets

Time to Let

Go

Scotland

A once Proud Nation

Where so Many are cut out of the equation

But maybe One day

We’ll put our Judgements down

And then It will Be Allowed

For People to Come Together

And Speak Out

About those things

Of which We Are not proud

In a World so Unjust and Unfair

Many Communities are left in Despair

Feeling they are Beyond Repair

Yet so Many Truly do Care

Though Our Voice is rarely Heard

Coming from somewhere

Many do not wish to stray…

So they turn and Look a Way

But Those Who have Known

The Deepest of Hurts

Remain Unafraid to Touch this dirt

And Remember What It Means

To Put Love First

And so It Is

With the Deepest Remorse

And Regret

As a Nation

We have Failed to Protect

Those Who have Felt

Powerless and small

Shame on us

Shame on Us All

As this Old World

Crumbles and Falls

Many Souls

Have Come to See

This is not how It needs

To Be

And In This Knowing

We Are Free

To Remember

What It Means to Be

A Human Being

And What Really matters in This Life

The Truth

You See

You Are

What Truly Matters

to me
